He already took a big step in life by winning a playoff game (singular) this year. Could the Dallas Cowboys quarterback be stepping it up off the field too?

Rumors are swirling again that Tony Romo and Candice Crawford, who were linked last year, are not just dating again, but ready to walk down the aisle.

Back in December, Candice Crawford was spotted sporting something shiny and diamond-like on her finger, but colleagues shot down engagement rumors.

However, friends close to the Dallas power couple are now saying that Tony and Candice, sister of Gossip Girl star Chace, really are getting that serious.

"Tony's ready to make the next step," a friend of the hunky QB tells E! about the cute former Miss Missouri and current Dallas-area sports journalist.

"They'll move in together," adds the sports (and relationship) insider, "because he's telling friends he's most likely going to pop the question... soon."

Perhaps Tony has learned from past, public courtships with Carrie Underwood and Jessica Simpson that he should keep things a bit more under wraps.

We applaud that ... as well as his taste in women. Well, looks-wise. Jessica was kinda painful by the end, which was a big reason why he dumped her.

They’ve managed to keep the majority of their romance under the radar, but earlier this month Candice Crawford was spotted sporting what looked to be an engagement ring from her beau Tony Romo.

During a recent Dallas Cowboys game, the former Miss Missouri USA neglected to keep her left hand ring finger hidden, exposing what looked to be a very important piece of jewelry.

Fox NFL Sunday, the network's weekly pregame show, is not funny.

It's as if the hosts try to offer as little insight as possible, while they sit around and laugh at each other's jokes, which they try to make as unfunny as possible.

Nevertheless, you have to give the football pundits credit for this cartoon spoof from last Sunday, which mocks their own show as well as the Dallas Cowboys.

Head Coach Wade Phillips, quarterback Tony Romo and his ex-girlfriend Jessica Simpson are among those ridiculed, and let's just say Fox was far from subtle.

Of Jessica's weight gain, running back Marion Barber jokes, "I can't believe Tony dated Jessica Simpson, even after she blew up bigger than Flozell Adams!"

Flozell, BT-Dubs, is an tackle for Dallas who tips the scales at 340.

The Chicago Sun-Times, Dallas Morning News, New York Daily News and others are saying that the football star has moved on from Jessica Simpson with Candice.

One could call her a younger, prettier and in all likelihood smarter and less annoying version of the alleged actress and singer he dated for over a year until recently.

Us Weekly even quotes a source as saying Candice Crawford is "not exactly happy that it's out [in the media], but they weren't trying to hide either." Okay then.

"They've gone out to dinner in Dallas a bunch."

Guess that means she's dating Tony Romo!

According to sources in the know, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback is said to be dating “Gossip Girl” star Chace Crawford’s younger sister, Candice.

While this rumor is unsubstantiated, it could be true because:

• Candice Crawford covers high school sports for Dallas station 33TV and also hosts the weekend Dallas Cowboys sports show Special Edition.
• She totally kind of looks like Jessica Simpson and Carrie Underwood (who, after dating Tony Romo, also dated Chace Crawford). We're sold!

Though we may never know the true reasons behind Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo’s failed romance, recent reports tell that it may have something to do with the “Do You Know” damsel’s partying ways.

According to a FOX News source, the Cowboys quarterback’s pals had been urging him to break things off so he could focus on his professional career.

Jessica Simpson ticked off the Indians this week when a Reporter asked her if she planned to take back the boat she bought for former boyfriend, Tony Romo. She proclaimed that she isn’t an Indian Giver. Maybe its because she can’t get into the gate to repo the boat? Here is more from Us Magazine.

As we reported yesterday, Tony Romo has been linked to another woman named Natalie Smith almost immediately after he broke up with Jessica Simpson.

But Smith's father is quick to shoot down reports that they're involved.

"His breakup brought all these rumors that are not true," says John Smith, Associate Athletic Director at Romo's alma mater, Eastern Illinois University.

He admits that Tony Romo and Natalie Smith met up for lunch in Dallas last week, but says his entire family – including his wife and three daughters – have "always been friends" with the Cowboys quarterback since he was in college.

"Natalie feels so bad," adds her dad.

"Just being friends with Tony has now disrupted everyone [from] talking about Tony and football and are instead talking about Tony and all of this."

With reports about his love life like this surfacing regularly, the newly-single (or not) Dallas Cowboys quarterback is set to report to training camp this week.

"What is funny about all this is that if Tony hadn't broken up with Jessica, nothing would ever have been written about him having lunch with Natalie," adds her dad.

Simpson, meanwhile, has started hitting the town in Los Angeles after keeping a low profile for the first few weeks after getting dumped and locked out by Romo.

She joined a large group of friends and family – including her parents Joe and Tina – at Katana's Red Sun BBQ on July 26 for a belated birthday celebration.

The next day, the singer arrived at West Hollywood's House of Pascal Mouawad for a CD release party for Candy Shop by An-Ya, an artist on her dad's label.

"She was in high spirits, joking, laughing, meeting people," says a Jessica Simpson source. "You wouldn't even know she was upset about a breakup."

After the show, Tony Romo introduced Simpson to Smith, 22, the daughter of the athletic director at Romo's alma mater, Eastern Illinois University.

"They are not officially dating, but are having an intimate relationship," a Smith source says. Adds another pal of Smith, who typically dined with Romo when he'd visit his college town: "They've always flirted and texted each other."

"They had phone conversations one to two months before the breakup."

It gets better. While Simpson is a "wreck" over the news, Natalie Smith is supposedly "determined not to become clingy like Jessica." Good call, Nat!

Seems a bit extreme. Maybe the John Mayer text messages set him off.

Not that Jessica wanted to stick around: The singer paid $19,000.00 on July 15 to ship 37 boxes worth of her belongings from Dallas to L.A. overnight.

For her part, Simpson has been working out again with a personal trainer in L.A., going on movie dates with her mom and girlfriends, and trying to move on.

"Everyone needs to know hope floats... grab the strings and pull it back to you... Falling asleep with my mom and the dogs. Please, Lord, give all of my beautiful fans, friends, enemies, and family rest. Bring all of us peace," she Tweeted.

That is pretty pathetic. No wonder her family feels bad for Jessica.

Apparently Tony Romo got fed up with Jessica Simpson’s dad. Imagine that. So he’s now dumped her. Although its been said that John Mayer has been texting her, as of late. Tony, come on, now that Jessica and Terrel are both out of your life, you are sure to win! Here is more from Fox News.

Another inside source said that Jessica’s manager/father Joe Simpson’s meddling ways most likely took its toll on the relationship, which is the reason why they split the first time fourteen months ago. We’re told Joe promised he’d take a step back when the couple reunited but he was still too involved in his daughter’s private life.
“At one point Joe was even giving Tony football advice which doesn’t go down well,” said an insider. “Tony was a football superstar before he got mixed up in Hollywood, this move will be probably be good at least for his career.”

Dumping someone before their birthday seems harsh, but reports suggest that Tony Romo had good reason for calling it quits with Jessica Simpson in such fashion.

"Barbie party didn't happen, but I turned 29 and feel like I am on top of the world yelling I LOVE GETTING OLDER!" the aspiring singer Tweeted.

The source says Simpson is sad they broke up. "They were good together for along time," says the source. "But I guess it wasn't meant to be."

Still, Romo tried to dump her before and that didn't take, so there is always the chance they'll get back together. "They go from one fight right into another, without a second break," the source says. "It's always something with Jessica."

As for rumors Jessica might be pregnant, Tony Romo says there's "not that I know of," but "I'm sure you guys'll tell me something new soon enough."

"Probably get a little bite to eat and probably watch a football game," he said. "That's our perfect evening. It's exciting for both of us because I found someone I get to hang with, and she embraces the game and wants to see our team do well.

Tony spoke to ET at a photo shoot for the sportswear company Starter, and he remarked on having to get into "model mode" to shoot the new ad campaign.

"I don't think I'll ever be a model; I don't have any Zoolander poses," he says. "But we'll definitely get out here and have some fun with the Starter stuff."

"As an athlete you know you want to feel comfortable when you're moving around, and have stuff on you that feels natural, and they do a really good job."

Adding to the ranks of celebrity Lakers fans, Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo attended Game One of the NBA Finals at the Staples Center in Los Angeles last night.

The home team won, 100-75, but the true victor was Jess, who's managed to keep this guy around despite her ballooning weight and rapidly deteriorating career.

Jessica Simpson touched down in Dallas with her injured quarterback boyfriend, Tony Romo, who is passing the time nicely with his NFL season officially over... or he was, until his girlfriend insisted on mugging for photos at the airport.

They arrived after spending New Years in Miami, Florida. They were all smiles about something ... or perhaps that was just Jess begging for attention as usual ...

TMZ says, As if totally choking in the biggest game of the season weren’t bad enough, Tony Romo had to have Jessica “Yoko” Simpson rush to his side to help him with a little popped-out cartilage.

Basically, Romo passed out in the shower after the big FAIL and Simpson had to come help him. Supposedly it was an injury that caused him to pass out, but others speculate he took a peak at PacMan Jones with his towel off. Nevertheless, big FAILs on the report card all the way around. Hopefully he feels better. I mean, how bad can it be? His chick is hotter than everyone elses.

Tony Romo has an 0-2 playoff record, a dismal December mark, and a whole lot of physical pain to show from his most recent football debacle.

But the Dallas Cowboys quarterback does have one thing going for him after his team's dismal loss to the Philadelphia Eagles over the weekend.

Well, maybe two things, if you know what we mean.

Jessica Simpson, the athlete's girlfriend, "rushed to his side as soon as she found out that Tony got hurt," a source said amid reports surfacing about Tony Romo collapsing in the shower of the team's locker room after the game Sunday.

“She got on a red eye flight right when she found out, and arrived at 5 a.m. [that] morning," the source added.

Not to worry, Tony Romo. Nurse Jessica will see you now.

Romo's torn cartilage popped out of place twice during the game and again afterward, which is what caused him to collapse, according to the Dallas Morning News.

No word on what the couple plans to do with its offseason as the good NFL teams play on, but Jessica certainly has time to nurse Tony back to health.

He's gonna need it. Heck, a couple of more months like this past one and Tony Romo's career will be going down faster than her on ... forget it.

While the win served as sweet revenge for Donovan McNabb over former teammate Terrell Owens, it also featured another setback in the comeback attempt of Jessica Simpson.

The attention-hungry singer was denied a chance to root on boyfriend Tony Romo in the post-season, as cheers could be heard around the nation from Fox cameramen tired of focusing on the dunce in the pink jersey.

On the opposite end of the large-breasted spectrum, Kendra Wilkinson is likely purchasing cold-weather clothing this morning. She and fiance Hank Baskett will be headed to Minnesota next week, as Baskett's Eagles takes on the Vikings.

Hank wasn't much of a factor in yesterday's game, but he did have the same number of receptions as Romo had touchdown passes: zero.
