There was no Ricky Gervais around to crack jokes and make everyone in the room feel awkward, but the Screen Actors Guild Awards proceeded this evening nevertheless.

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's... Henry Cavill?

The British actor, best known for his role of Charles Brandon in The Tudors, has landed the coveted role of Superman in that franchise's next installment.

Warner Brothers will release a reboot of the Man of Steel at some point in the next couple years. It will be directed by Zack Snyder and produced by Christopher Nolan. Says Snider of the choice:

"In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield."

Chris Brown caused a bit of a stir late last week with a request to have the restraining order lifted against him. The order bars any contact with Rihanna.

The singer's rep is shooting down speculation that his lawyer made the request for any particular reason - such as a rendezvous with Ri at the Grammys.

Not so, says his camp. It's just the next step in the process of Chris completing the terms of his sentence and moving forward with clearing his name.

Tammy Brook, a rep for Brown, insists that there was no specific motive, and "the lifting of the restraining order is part of the ongoing legal proceedings."

"The date was scheduled months ago. Chris Brown is thankful for his nominations, but due to scheduling conflicts, [won't] attend the Grammys."

As part of the Rihanna assault case, Brown's attorney asked the judge to reduce the "stay away" order against him to a "do not annoy" order.

While the judge again praised Brown for his progress, the ruling was put off until a later date because Rihanna's attorney couldn't be reached.

Charlie Sheen has officially checked into a rehab facility, despite claiming he's fine and referring to all of us as a "bunch of turds."

But information about the actor's 36-hour rager is still leaking out, as porn star K-Fed's former babysitter sat down with E! News over the weekend and went into detail about the evening she spent with the troubled moron.

Among the revelations shared by Kacey Jordan in the interview:

• She witnessed Sheen smoking cocaine for hours.
• The two had "quick sex."
• He cut her a $30,000 check and said she was the "missing puzzle piece" for his "porn family."
• Sheen is "a very nice and polite guy" and he told her he has "porcelain teeth" due to drug abuse.
• Around 3 a.m.,  Sheen started "punching walls" and "yelling in outrage" because one of the guests side-swiped his car on her way out.
• When she left, Jordan wondered if she'd ever see Sheen alive again.

Jordan Knight took to his website yesterday and revealed something that leaves us less shocked than we'll be when Jesse James and Kat Von D file for divorce in a couple months:

He's gay.

The topic of this singer's sexuality came up this month because former pop star Tiffany went on Bravo and said she did once date a member of New Kids on the Block, the guy "who became gay later."

Knight said he doesn't blame Tiffany at all for that slip-up and added:

"I have never been outed by anyone but myself! I did so almost twenty years ago. I never knew that I would have to do it all over again publicly just because I reunited with NKOTB! I have lived my life very openly and have never hidden the fact that I am gay!

"Apparently the pre requisite to being a gay public figure is to appear on the cover of a magazine with the caption 'I am gay'. I apologize for not doing so if this is what was expected! My belief is that you live your life by example, and not by a caption on a magazine! If there ever has been any confusion about my sexuality, then you are someone that doesn't even know me!

"I love living my life being open and honest, but at this time I choose not to discuss my private life any further! My fellow band members don't discuss their private lives with their loved ones and I don't feel that just because I am gay, I should have to discuss mine!"

Knight and his fellow New Kids kick off their tour with The Backstreet Boys on June 2.

On last week's Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reunion special, Camille Grammer claimed she'd been set up all season by Bravo, and also accused Kyle Richards of acting like a bully.

Part two, meanwhile, airs this week and will focus on the elephant in the room. The drunken, pill-popping, blonde elephant in the room, that is.

Britney Spears is going to love this.

Not only did Kacey Jordan, Charlie Sheen's latest porn star plaything, abort K-Fed's child a few years back, she used to babysit the loser's kids with Britney.

After Brit and Kevin split, Kacey Jordan and K-Fed dated briefly. During that smokin' hot relationship, she would babysit his two sons for him on occasion.

WORST SITTER EVER: Britney Spears will surely be thrilled to know her kids were under the care of a trashy porn star that K-Fed was impregnating.

Don't ask us what K-Fed even does that would require him to leave Sean Preston and Jayden James with a babysitter, but that's the story. The scary story.

"I watched the kids when Kevin was dealing with the divorce. He was busy going to so many meetings," she said. "We went swimming ... they were great."

Probably true. Compared to partying with Charlie Sheen, a lot less can go wrong. The odds of ending up in the hospital after OD'ing are certainly smaller.

No Strings Attached. It's not just a predictable Ashton Kutcher movie.

It's also the current status of Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, according to a friend of the couple, who says rumors of the pair's reconciliation are premature.

“They are just friends with benefits and while something more is certainly possible, they are taking things slow,” the insider told Hollywood Life. “It’s obvious they still have strong feelings for each other and are continuing to hook up.”

This source cited "career demands and distance" as the basis of the break-up in December between Zac and Vanessa, but concluded by offering up hope to fans everywhere:

"I’d be shocked if they don’t get back together someday.”

Despite fans' lukewarm reaction and critics' mediocre reviews (at best), ABC is totally running back Bachelor Pad a second time this summer. 

Casting will begin at a party this very weekend.

“If you’re on the invite, then you’re in the running to become a contestant on Bachelor Pad,” a source said of the sexy reality star gathering.

Please, let these two idiots be among the new cast members ...

Next Entertainment, the production company that owns The Bachelor, Bachelorette and Bachelor Pad, is assembling as many as 65 BP hopefuls.

The invite bringing the castoffs from past seasons together promises an open bar, suggests cocktail attire, and is an on-camera event itself.

Everyone has to sign a waiver of release so they can be on camera and they plan to air footage on The Bachelor's "The Women Tell All."

“The producers are trying to pick their characters and come up with the cryer, the drunk and the angry contestant,” said an inside source.

Lucky Bachelor Pad winners Dave Good and Natalie Getz won the $250,000 prize in the first season of the show, which aired last summer. 

Despite a shaky, nonsensical premise and an oddball cast of characters, the season featured plenty of drama, tears and bed hopping.

In other words, good enough to make it work.

“I’m sure they will be shooting in the Spring again, though there are no definite dates,” said the source of Bachelor Pad's second season.
