Gemma Vaughan, PETA's animals in entertainment specialist (really) fired off a letter to Punxsutawney Groundhog Club president William Deeley this week, imploring the organization to forgo the use of real rodents in future Groundhog Days.
Deeley responded in a statement to the Associated Press that the world-famous groundhog is "being treated better than the average child in Pennsylvania."
Furthermore, Phil's treatment conforms to the standards of the state's agriculture department, which visits him at the town's Groundhog Museum annually.
Still, PETA V.P. Tracy Reiman is lobbying for an animatronic Phil, who "would attract new and curious tourists" to Punxsutawney's annual event. Please.

Andrew Young, John Edwards’ former campaign aide, confidant and co-conspirator, has made some shocking allegations about the politician in his new book.
Most notably, Young claims in The Politician that he found a John Edwards sex tape, showing the ex-Senator hitting it with his mistress, Rielle Hunter. Blech.
That's scandalous enough, but in an unexpected new twist, reports are surfacing that Young was trying to profit from a sale of the John Edwards sex tape.
“He was exploring options for the tape,” said a source close to the situation. “He had spoken to people about possible financial deals involving the tape.”
Andrew Young says he found the tape in the trash and it was marked “special.” Other sources say he was given the tape by Edwards and asked to hide it.
Either way, the Edwards sex tape remained with Young after Edwards admitted the affair with Rielle Hunter, and Young supposedly explored marketing it.
Rielle Hunter’s face is never shown on tape, though it is clear John is with a pregnant woman "wearing a bracelet" and a "thumb ring" typically worn by her. Oooookay.
Even more shockingly, today, Hunter won a temporary restraining order Friday prohibiting Young from disseminating the tape, implying he still has the thing.
She has sought an injunction demanding the very "personal video recording that depicted matters of a very private and personal nature" be returned to her.
Who knows if Andrew Young still has the tape or really tried to sell it, but as Edwards' lies began to unravel, he eventually turned on his boss in a big way.
But back in 2007, Young was so trusted by Edwards and believed in him so fervently, he claimed to be the father of Rielle's daughter (who is really John's).
Lying for Edwards used to be his purpose in life. Today on Good Morning America, answering machine messages left by Edwards on his phone were played.

While it may be early to give Michelle Delamor that label, the rumored semifinalist sounds quite sure of herself.
In a recent interview, this Miami native said she was "destined for greatness and going places." We love the confidence of the 20-year old!
Delamor also dreams of conquering two worlds: music and fashion. In a Miami Herald article, she said of the two passions:

A day after Jay Leno threw himself a pity party on Oprah and referred to Jimmy Kimmel's appearance on his show as a "sucker punch," the ABC host has fired back - hilariously and accurately.
It all started when Kimmel impersonated Leno on an edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live a few weeks ago. Someone at NBC then made the ludicrous decision to invite Kimmel on to The Jay Leno Show, somehow not expecting him to mock Leno for his role in the network's late-night debacle.
As Kimmel explained in his sharp monologue last night, he expected this to be an actual comedic showdown, not some lame interview in which Leno offered no witty retorts. We'll let Jimmy take it from here...
"The mistake I made was thinking Jay would have anything other to say than what was written on the cue cards. I figured he'd get into it and mix it up. You know, at one time he was a comedian. But he just stood there, kind-of reading through the questions like a robot and then goes off and rats me out to Oprah.
"That's a sucker punch right there, he's a tattle tale.
"Oprah and I had a wonderful relationship and now it's ruined because of Jay. And by the way, watch out Oprah, don't think he won't take your show next."
Amen, in every possibly way, Jimmy. One of the most glaring results in this mess is the contrast in humor between Leno and his counterparts, Kimmel and David Letterman.
Think about Leno's funniest bits: Headlines, Jaywalking and 10@10, the segment on which Kimmel tore him apart. None of them involve actual wit or creativity on Leno's part. Literally anyone could do his job, but most people would do it with more class and professionalism.

After an investigation of more than seven months, the Los Angeles County D.A. is ready to charge Dr. Conrad Murray in the death of Michael Jackson.
Look for charges to be filed as early as next week.
Members of the D.A.'s office, including the Los Angeles County District Attorney himself, Steve Cooley, have already met about filing a criminal case.
While members of the LAPD still have not met with the D.A. to present the case, the deputy D.A. assigned to the Michael Jackson investigation, David Walgren, has worked closely with LAPD detectives on the case, is familiar with the's details.
He has already briefed Cooley and others in the office.
It appears Dr. Conrad Murray will stand trial and soon.
Dr. Conrad Murray was Michael Jackson's personal physician at the time of his June 25 death, believed to have been caused by the anesthetic Propofol.
He disappeared, or at least kept an extremely low profile, for several months, only to return to work lately because dude was behind on child support.
He's already lawyered up in anticipation of the charges to come.
The most likely of those charges? Involuntary manslaughter. Murder is a hard sell, as he surely didn't mean to take the life of the King of Pop that day.
Many believe his negligence and/or shady medical practices played a role in MJ's death, however, and that's enough to warrant serious charges.
