South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford repeatedly asked his wife's permission to visit his lover, Maria Belen Chapur, in the months after she discovered his affair.
"I said absolutely not. It's one thing to forgive adultery; it's another thing to condone it," Jenny Sanford said in her first comments on the affair.
Jenny said that when Mark Sanford, inexplicably went off the grid last week, she hoped he was hiking on the Appalachian Trail, as his staff claimed at first.
That he had dared go to Argentina to see his mistress left her stunned.
"He was told in no uncertain terms not to see her," she said. "I was hoping he was on the Appalachian Trail. But I was not worried about his safety."
"I was hoping he was doing some real soul searching somewhere and devastated to find out it was Argentina [with Maria Belen Chapur]. It's tragic."
The Sanfords had separated about two weeks ago. Mark Sanford told the family that he wanted some time away to work on writing a book and "clear his head."
The S.C. First Lady said, "I had every hope he was not going to see her."
"You would think that a father who didn't have contact with his children, if he wanted those children, he would toe the line a little bit," she said.
Mark Sanford returned Wednesday to end nearly four days of speculation over his whereabouts, publicly confess his cheating and emotionally apologize.
Jenny Sanford, a Georgetown-educated, former Wall Street vice president, did not stand next to her husband Wednesday during his public confession.
She said she discovered her husband's affair with Maria Belen Chapur early this year after coming across a copy of a letter to her in one of his files.
He had asked her to find some financial information - not an unusual request considering her heavy involvement in his career. Jenny Sanford would not comment on what was in the letter except to say "enough to figure out an affair was going on."
Jenny felt "shocked and obviously deeply hurt. I didn't think he had it in him," she said. "It's hard to find out your husband is not who you thought he was."
The first lady said she confronted Mark Sanford immediately, and he agreed to end the affair. She said she wasn't sure Friday whether he had done so.
"I guess that's what we will have to see. I believe he has," she said.
"But he was down there for five days. I saw him yesterday and he is not staying here. We'll just see what kind of spirit of reconciliation he has himself."
The governor declined to discuss details of the letter.
"This goes into the personal zone," he said. "I'd simply say that Jenny has been magnanimous and gracious as a wonderful Christian woman in this process."
Jenny Sanford, crying, said the couple have been to counseling.
"When I found out in January, we both indicated a willingness to continue working on the marriage, but there's not room for three people in a marriage," she said.
"I've done everything in my power possibly to keep him from going to see her and to really make sure she was off the table, including asking him to leave."
About an hour after Jenny Sanford talked of her pain and feelings of betrayal, her husband brushed aside any suggestion he might immediately resign.
"What I find interesting is the story of David, and the way in which he fell mightily - fell in very, very significant ways, but then picked up the pieces and built from there," Mark Sanford told members of his cabinet.
Meanwhile, questions grew about a trip to Argentina he took last summer.
While he agreed to reimburse the state for part of a more-than $8,000 tab that enabled him to see the mistress, state officials indicated they never intended a South American economic development trip to hold meetings in Argentina.
That was only done at the governor's behest, said Kara Borie, a spokeswoman for the state Commerce Department. A Sanford spokesman did not know if Sanford's request for meetings would have allowed taxpayers to cover the Argentina visit.
Some leaders have called for Sanford to resign and some watchdog groups are pressing for investigations into whether he improperly used state money.
For Jenny Sanford, the focus is the couple's four sons.
During her interview, Sanford wept as she displayed the stellar report cards earned by her eldest two sons at an exclusive private school in Columbia.
On the table was a collection of devotional books, including a book on the Bible's Book of Job, the story of a man whose faith God tests to the extreme.
"Parenting is the most important job there is and what Mark has done has added a serious weight to that job," she said.
That didn't take long.
Just days after her split with Nick Lachey, Vanessa Minnillo has reportedly moved, at least for a few hours on Saturday night.
According to sources at Radar Online, the former MTV VJ made out with with actor Topher Grace at Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s Los Angeles home over the weekend.
MacFarlane was hosting a party that included an outdoor casino, around which Minnillo and Grace were spotted flirting, whispering to one another and exchanging phone numbers.

Billy Mays was found dead today in his home in Tampa, Fla., this morning.
The 50-year-old TV pitchman was discovered unresponsive by his wife Deborah at 7:45 a.m., according to the Tampa Police and numerous online reports.
His body has already been removed from his home.
Billy Mays had just returned from Philadelphia, where he shot a new OxiClean ad. He was a passenger aboard a plane that suffered a blown front tire upon landing.
He told a local TV station:
"All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping. It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head."
Mays was at his home around 6:00 p.m. last night, and according to a source, was "acting fine and normal ... he was talking business with his father-in-law."

According to police, there are no signs of forced entry to the residence and no foul play is suspected. The Medical Examiner's office is expected to complete the autopsy by tomorrow afternoon, at which point more will be known.
Billy Mays' wife Deborah said in a statement: "Although Billy lived a public life, we don't anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days. Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times."
A haunting and upsetting portrait of Michael Jackson's final months has now been painted by Grace Rwaramba, a nanny who cared for his three children.
In an interview with The Times of London, Rwaramba said she routinely pumped his stomach after he had ingested a dangerous combination of drugs.
"I had to pump his stomach so many times. He always mixed so much of it," Grace Rwaramba, 42, said. "There was one period that it was so bad that I didn't let the children see him ... He always ate too little and mixed too much."
Rwaramba, who is originally from Rwanda, is en route to L.A. where she will be interviewed by the LAPD, which is investigating why Michael Jackson died.
Having once proposed a drug invention for Michael, and contacting his mother Katherine and sister Janet for their help with it, the nanny instead got fired:
"He didn't want to listen. That was one of the times he let me go."
An employee of Michael Jackson's for more than a decade, Grace Rwaramba started as an office assistant to the pop star before becoming a nanny to his three children.
Jackson's three children are Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., 12 (also known as Prince Michael Jackson), Paris Michael Katherine Jackson, 11, and Prince Michael Jackson II (a.k.a. Blanket), 7. Debbie Rowe is the mother of the elder two.
Rwaramba was last fired by Michael in December 2008, and claims that when she visited the three children in April, she personally had to buy the balloons for Paris' birthday party because Michael Jackson was so broke.
"Michael had no idea about money," she says, backing up claims that Jackson was rumored to be awash in about $400 million in debt at the time of his death.
According to Rwaramba, on Friday, the day after Michael died, his mother Katherine called her from Michael's L.A. house and asked where he kept his cash.
"She said, 'Grace, the children are all crying. They are asking about you. They can't believe that their father died. Grace, you remember Michael used to hide cash at the house. I am here. Where can it be?'"
Rwaramba advised looking "at the garbage bags and under the carpets."
Then, said the former nanny, "She said, 'Grace, where are you? Come. I will pick you up from the airport.' She sounded so strong. So strong!"
Jackson's autopsy results revealed an unknown cause of death. Toxicology testing should help establish more concrete answer, but will take weeks.
Demi Lovato, thank goodness, is the anti-Paris Hilton. She doesn't party every night at clubs, she's never made a sex tape and, to the best of our knowledge, she loves to wear underwear.

The singer and his girlfriend of three years, who got engaged in October wed in the garden of his seven-acre estate in the hills above Studio City, California.
Around 7 p.m., Janie Liszewski walked down the aisle to Van Halen's "When It's Love," performed by the Sonus Quartet. What an awesome wedding song.
The 54-year-old groom's 18-year-old son, Wolfgang, served as best man, while brother Alex Van Halen, an ordained minister, officiated the 20-minute service.
Among the 100 guests: Van Halen's ex-wife of 25 years, Valerie Bertinelli.
Janie Liszewski, 39, was given away by her mother under the watchful eye of Kano, the 15-year-old Pomeranian who walked Liszewski down the aisle.

Yesterday he and Kendra Wilkinson tied the knot at The Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills. How romantical. Anyways, the two are married and are expected to stay married for the next 2 years or until Kendra’s reality show finally tanks (which ever comes first, and at this point, that’s a toss up). Perez Hilton has found a way to embarrass himself, yet again, in this Black Eye’d Peas incident. As you know, Will.i.am took one for the people and decked Perez Hilton. Perez, in turn, is trying to say that he will donate the money from his lawsuit to the Matthew Shepard Foundation. Problem is, he didn’t tell them about it and well, they don’t care for him enough to take the money. Perez, your own people are turning against you. Good work. The Matthew Shepard Foundation was surprised to learn this morning via media reports that blogger Perez Hilton (Mario Lavandeira) has announced he plans to donate, to our organization, the proceeds of a lawsuit he is contesting over an altercation which has been widely reported in recent days.
We had no advance notice or contact from Mr. Hilton or his representatives regarding this proposal, nor any communication since he posted this plan to his website.
We do not know the details of the lawsuit, whether it has been filed, the nature of his claims or the likely outcome. But because the lawsuit presumably involves the physical attack prompted by Mr. Hilton’s admitted use of an anti-gay slur, the Foundation will be unable to accept any funds obtained in such a manner.
We very much appreciate the generosity of the offer to support our continuing work to memorialize Matthew through activism in defense of sexual minorities and in favor of understanding, compassion, and acceptance. But because so much of our work involves education to reduce the use of hateful language against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons, or those so perceived, it would be inappropriate for us to benefit financially from circumstances in which such a verbal attack was involved.
While we applaud Mr. Hilton’s apology to the LGBT community and their loved ones for his use of such a slur, we also feel compelled to point out that use of epithets can often lead to physical violence, as it appears it may have in this case, and that the Matthew Shepard Foundation has worked for more than 10 years to bring to people’s attention the consequences of hateful or intolerant language.

It seemed weird when he pulled a Mark Sanford and went off the grid, but Dr. Conrad Murray - who met with police last night - is no more than a witness when it comes to the death of Michael Jackson, according to the physician's attorney.
Investigators met with Murray for about three hours Saturday night after he voluntarily contacted authorities. Dr. Conrad Murray (also known as Dr. Conrad Robert Murray) is certain he is in no way responsible for the death of Jackson.
The LAPD released this statement:
"Dr. Conrad Murray, the physician who was with Michael Jackson at the time of his collapse, voluntarily contacted the Los Angeles Police Department."
"Detectives met with Dr. Murray and conducted an extensive interview. Dr. Murray was cooperative and provided information which will aid the investigation."
Murray is now free to go if he wants, but says he plans on staying in town "out of the goodness of his heart." His lawyer says there is "no need for further questioning" of Murray, but says the doctor "wants to help out as much as possible."
He is not considered a suspect.
Despite all of this, Michael Jackson's family members still have their suspicions about Dr. Conrad Murray and what happened on the day Jackson died.
A source close to the family says they feel Conrad Murray should not be cleared of any wrongdoing just yet. The family requested a second autopsy to find out the last drug Jackson took. A Demerol overdose has been rumored but not confirmed.
The family feels once those results are known, a criminal investigation will take place. The family is questioning Dr. Murray's abilities as a doctor.
In the Michael Jackson 911 call, the caller says Dr. Murray was performing CPR on Jackson on a bed; CPR is routinely performed on a hard surface.
A source said, "If you're a doctor, how can you not know how to do CPR?"
It’s been reported that the former glamour model has admitted she's reached crisis point and has begged her mum Amy for help. In a moment of weakness Katie admitted:
“I'm still so angry with what he's done and I'm not going to take back what I've said about him. But I do understand now that this is hard on him too.
“I have been trying to shove things in his face and make him feel jealous and I'm going to try to stop that.
“I want people to look at me as a good mum for my kids but I've been having the biggest crisis of my personal life ever, so it's been hard."
This sudden change of heart came after Katie’s mum Amy lashed out at her daughter for her recent antics in Ibiza. A source claims:
“Amy was absolutely livid with Katie. Things really kicked off.
“Amy and (step-dad) Paul had one intention - to give her a massive telling off. They sat her down and, in no uncertain terms, told her if she keeps this up the kids will end up with Pete. She really laid into her daughter and she got the result she wanted this time.”

Debbie Rowe has the rights to the kids, contrary to popular belief. Basically, you can’t leave kids to someone via a will. Imagine that. Prince Michael, Paris and Jackson’s third child, Blanket, 7, whose mother has not been identified, have been in the care of Jackson’s mother Katherine since the entertainer died Thursday after a cardiac arrest. “The kids are very upset, but they are fine,” Jackson’s manager, Frank DiLeo, tells PEOPLE.
During the custody fight between Rowe and Jackson in 2005, Rowe sought to give up her parental rights, and lauded Michael as a good father. Retired Judge Stephen Lachs, who presided over the hearing, at first agreed to terminate them, but then Lachs changed his mind and returned the rights to her.
“She lost them, and then she got them back,” Finsilver says. Finsilver said she spoke to Rowe on Thursday but she cannot say what Rowe plans to do. “She was inconsolable.”

Following talk that Adam Lambert would contribute a song to the New Moon soundtrack, E! News asked the crooner about the possibility.
His answer was simple, yet revealing - and exciting!
"That's just another rumor. That would be really cool. I should [do it]."

As the recent bikini photos from France proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, Heroes star Hayden Panettiere has no problem showing a little skin.
But if this report is to be believed, we haven't seen anything yet.
In her new movie, I Love You, Beth Cooper, Panettiere stars as the most popular girl in high school who is the object of the school nerd's affection.
In one scene, with her back to the camera, she drops her towel in the locker room to impress her geeky suitor (Paul Rust). How naked was she?
"I was really naked," she said.
Gulp.
"I had these little sticky petals on my boobs, but that was about it. My dad calls me such an exhibitionist," Hayden Panettiere, 19, continues. "He always says, 'God, even when you were little, you were such an exhibitionist!' "
Even so, Hayden Panettiere has no plans to go frontal for the cameras.
She seems open to the idea down the road, at least, so fingers crossed.
"I'm cool with my body, and I'm cool running around undressed and all that stuff, but there are just certain things that not everyone needs to know, that you need to keep somehow private and personal to you," she said.
"But you never know. I could be 30 years old and just be like, 'Screw it, I want to take it all off. I better take a picture of this baby before it all goes.'"
Well ... she turns 20 in August. How about that for a milestone, girl?

Failing to shed light on the question which everyone wants answered, the cause of Michael Jackson’s death is still unknown following the completion of his autopsy by the L.A. County Coroner’s Office on Friday (June 26).
Explaining that more tests are necessary to determine the official cause of death, chief coroner investigator Craig Harvey said “the cause of death was deferred because additional tissue studies and testing—including toxicology, neuropathology, pulmonary and others—must be completed.”

Meanwhile, other Maria Belen Chapur pictures have been revealed, but may or may not be of the same woman Mark Sanford had a relationship with.
For now, all we can do is make do with what we have - unless another political scandal breaks along the way and takes its risque place, of course.
